The smart calendar: activities, templates and iCal
The 📅 Calendar entry in the top navigation opens your smart calendar — one place for vineyard sprays, rackings, bottling days and everything in between, with season-long templates and an iCal feed for your phone.
Views and navigation
Switch between Month, Week, Day and Agenda with the view switcher, jump around with Today and the ‹ › arrows, and use the keyboard: ← / → to navigate, t for today, m/w/d/a for views. On narrow screens the calendar automatically shows the Agenda view. Filters let you narrow by category or vineyard block, and selecting a single block overlays its predicted phenology stages on the grid.
Add an activity
- Click + Add (or click a day cell to add on that date).
- In the Add activity modal, enter a Title (e.g. "Rack off lees"), an optional Type, and a Category of Vineyard or Cellar.
- Set the Start date, an optional End date for multi-day windows, and an optional Block.
- Click Add.
Click any event to complete, skip, reschedule or delete it — or simply drag it to another day.
Apply a template
Click Browse templates → to open Activity Templates. Each template carries a scope badge, and there are two kinds — they anchor differently:
| Template type | Anchors to | You provide |
|---|---|---|
| Vineyard | The block's phenological stages (budburst, flowering…) | A Block and a Season (year) |
| Winemaking | A day-zero start date | A Start date (e.g. pitch day) and optionally a Fermentation |
For a vineyard template, select the template, choose a Block and Season (year), then click Apply to calendar. Phenology-anchored tasks need the block's forecast (set its latitude/longitude); any that can't be resolved yet are skipped and appear once the forecast is available.
For a winemaking template, no block is needed: pick a Start date — pitch day works well — optionally link a Fermentation, and click Apply to calendar. Each step is scheduled a set number of days from your start date, and re-applying with the same fermentation replaces that template's previous tasks rather than duplicating them.
Vineyard blocks are plan-limited: 2 on the free Cellar Hand plan, 3 on Winemaker (€19/yr), unlimited from Vineyard (€39/mo) up.
Suggestions
When MakeWine derives a recommended task from your data, a ✨ Suggestions panel appears above the calendar showing the rationale and suggested window. For each one, choose Accept (adds it to the calendar), Snooze (resurfaces it later) or Dismiss.
Subscribe in Google or Apple Calendar
- Below the calendar, open the 🔬 Block forecast, disease risk & calendar sync panel.
- Click 📆 Subscribe (iCal) — a personal feed URL appears (it ends in
/calendar/feed.ics?token=…). Copy it, and treat it like a password: the token grants read access to your schedule. - In Google Calendar choose "Other calendars → From URL" and paste it; in Apple Calendar use "File → New Calendar Subscription". Your MakeWine activities then appear alongside your other events and stay in sync.
